Reducing Material Waste in Flexographic Printing Using a Servo Upgrade

Posted on April 20, 2020April 16, 2020 by Coleman

flexographic printingWith start and each stop of the media a servo update saves money and saves substrate. When printing on expensive substrate like BOPP movies the servo system is going to keep the task in register regardless of the normal stretching and shrinking that happens when printing on movies. The job will require stops for alterations. The sum total substance waste could come to as much as a quarter of the material on a roll.

BOPP Films

BOPP Films are made for labels and packaging. This polypropylene product is inert and not affected by chemical agents that are common. BOPP films are non-toxic and may be recycled. These features together with high tensile strength and resistance to water passing make it popular. For the flexor printer there is that a significant element the printability of BOPP films. They may be treated to make them better and sealable obstacles using PVDC and acrylic coatings. This is a terrific material for labels and packaging.

Savings Example

The Length of substance in a twelve color press is 200 feet. Aside from the start the press is going to be stopped eliminate and to rewind material that is printed. It will be stopped for alterations. Two stops will be necessary to eliminate waste matrix. This will come 2 + 2+ 2 = 7 begins of the press. We will suppose that it takes two spans of the press to find the net in register. This will amount to 400 feet of waste material with each seven press starts or 2,800 feet out of a 7,800 foot roll. That amounts to a material loss 35.9percent or 84 on a 234 roster of BOPP.In comparison the media will be brought by the Servo 3000 addition to a flexor press into 200 feet in this case or enroll in one press span. First let’s assume the number 7, of press begins. The substance waste will be 7 begins x 200 ft. This is 42 a roster of BOPP or 18 percent. Now let’s consider the servo infeed on the Servo 3000 very precisely follows the media with 0.0025 resolutions at full press speed. This means the press to stop. That being the case we eliminate two press stops and we have one + 2 + 2 press stops. This comes out to 1000 ft. of waste or 12.82percent of the roster at a cost of 30.

Check Out a Savings Calculator

This Example looks at savings on substrate. Each time there is a press stopped it is not currently making money. The flexographic printing should follow this link and use the savings calculator to see what adding a servo will save. This will show the savings on overhead and substrate with the use of system upgrade and a servo unit for a typical press.
